Our Brews

First Wave of Local Brews

In 2020, we embarked on a daring adventure, in search of bringing local beer into the spotlight of Downtown Orangeville.  This started out strong with our first 3 brews; WAVES Dry Hopped Lager, Telepathic Typewriter Mid Coast IPA & Community 'Northmen' Lager.

While demand for different styles of beer shifted tastes and offerings, we will always remember the first wave of fresh, local pints :)

Community Lager

Orangeville's Own Lager, easy drinking, sessionable, with a portion of the proceeds going towards the Jr B Northmen Lacrosse program.  This lager is 4.8% ABV

Jull House 'Lagered Ale'

One part fruit, another part bready, yet other parts crisp and smooth, the Kölsch (Lagered Ale) is a noble beer with an interesting history.  Top-fermented in the great tradition of ales and then cold conditioned in the great tradition of lagers, you get the hoppy notes you want from an ale and the chilled, refreshing finish you want from a lager. It’s a beautiful hybrid of beer’s defining styles.

We went with the name Jull House, as an ode to the building in which Taphouse was born!  Rich in history (belonged to family members of the founder of Orangeville), plenty of character, and an exciting future!

Our Lagered Ale is 4.8% ABV, part bready, part fruity, all refreshing finish!

Colliers Wood 'Amber Ale'

Our Amber Ale (technically speaking) is an English Best Bitter, which has been proclaimed as the National Drink of England, but the name is a bit of a misnomer.

While they are English, they are not bitter at all!  Balance and drinkability is the key to a good ESB.  Our version of this classic style is malt forward, has a beautiful copper hue, and at 4.8% ABV is absolutely sessionnable!

This beer is dedicated to the late John Cheesman (Mike's Poppa) who emigrated to Canada in 1957 from a suburb of London, England called 'Colliers Wood'.

The most famous landmark in the area is the Colliers Wood Tower, which was voted the ugliest building in London by the BBC in 2006.

We love an underdog and wanted to show the building some love, so we stuck an photo of the Colliers Wood Tower on the label!

NightTime, AnyTime 'English Porter'

In early English brewing culture, brewers produced a darker, richer version of the English mild, brown ale. The new style earned its name in acknowledgement of who drank it the most: Dock workers (aka “porters”).

Our version of this classic English style is pretty robust at 6.8% ABV, it is roasty and toasty, chocolately and coffee(y), it is every bit a delicious, traditional English porter.

"Nighttime/Anytime (It's Alright)" is an EP by the Guelph Indie Group Constantines, released on SubPop in 2003.  And while this beer isn't directly named after the track, NightTime, AnyTime perfectly describes our delicious Porter.  Looks like night time, and is a great tasting beer, any time!

In Bocca Al Lupo 'Italian Pilsner'

Technically, the style was an accident. But as it turns out, it was a very happy accident!

In the early 90's, and Italian brewer setout to make a German pilsner.  Failing to brew what he considered a real pils, he decided to put the 'kind of a pils' through a dry-hopping process by adding small amounts of hop cones to the beer.  This process imparted Old World hop flavor into an unfiltered pilsner, and the Italian Pilsner was born.

In Bocca Al Lupo translates to 'in the mouth of the wolf' and is a common way to wish someone Good Luck in Italy.  Golden hued, incredibly smooth finish, and a sessionable 5.0% ABV - we created this beer to toast each other and celebrate!

Rhymes with (Orange)ville 'Sour Beer'

Grain is tricked into sprouting, scorched in a kiln, crushed, and boiled in a kettle. Oversimplification aside, the brewing method sounds uncomfortably close to how witches prepare children for dinner, and that’s discounting the extra steps required when using adjuncts, like, say, citrus fruit.

Rhymes with (Orange)ville Sour is 6.5% ABV and delivers comfort through familiarity.  It has an aromatic, palette-tickling funk that’s key to most farmhouse ales, and a beautiful rustic backdrop.

We are absolutely crazy about our Blood Orange Sour, and as it seems, so is Orangeville.
